Councilmember Mike Diaz and His Faith

Chula Vista Councilmember Mike Diaz is a follower of Jesus Christ. Mike and his entire family are devoted Christians. Oceanview Church has been Mike and Debi's church for over thirty years. Mike has always been very involved in serving God and being active in his church.

Some of Mike's work at the OVC include:

  • Sunday School teacher (with his wife Debi)
  • Bus ministry driver
  • Salt & Light Ministry leader
  • Prison Ministry

Mike never apologizes for his strong Christian faith. Mike believes that we are all to be lanterns on a hill, allowing Jesus to be shown to others through us. Mike has been criticized by his opponent for organizing a prayer group that gathers at the steps of city hall before every City Council meeting. Mike believes that our country's elected officials of every level of government should be prayed for.  Since September of last year and up until COVID, this group along with Councilmember Mike Diaz have regularly gathered to ask God to provide our elected officials guidance and wisdom. Mike uses scripture to guide him in his personal and professional life and James 1:19  ("let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath") is the corner stone of their prayer group. Mike believes that we should not point fingers and call names, but rather have God work in the hearts of men.

Prison Ministry Work

Mike is very involved in prison ministry work. Pre-COVID, Mike would go to a local prison almost on a weekly basis. The ministry puts on two big events each year which requires over 100 outside volunteers. Last year Mike was honored to be the leader on one of the yards. Mike has been so blessed with what God is doing in that prison.  This picture was created for Mike by the inmates for the program notebook. Mike picked Matthew 11:28 ("Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.") as the event Scripture.

What is your Gift?

A personal message from Mike Diaz

Hello, I believe we all are given special gifts. The question is: "what are you going to do with your gift?"  People in other countries do not have the same freedoms we have here in America. Whether it's religious persecution or the inability to change their government's leadership. Here in America, God has given you a special gift that many around the world wish they had, and that is the freedom and the privilege to vote.

I'm asking you to look at everything that is happening around us. We see a lot of hate and anger. Have you ever asked why? I think it's because, we as a nation have pushed God out of our public square and into the four walls of our church buildings.  I think it's time we as Christian begin to change that. Please pray for God to give you direction in how to vote. Lets be a nation that seeks God:

2 Chronicles 7:14

"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

God has given you the great gift of a vote! How are you going to use it? I'm asking you to consider this Christian brother. Don't just look at the Christian side, although that is important, but also look at my track record and what I have done for south west Chula Vista.

God Bless.
